The Simpsons - The Complete Sixth Season

I am a diehard Simpsons fan, but let me say that I wouldn't give 5 stars to any season past 8. There are some seasons that I'd have to give 3 stars or lower. So while I might be biased, I'm still picky about my Simpsons.

This season is one of the ones that had David Mirken as a show runner. His sensibility is probably my favorite of all the show runners. His decisions kept the show aimed in the right direction, staying true to character while pushing the boundaries of the show. This is where I feel other show runners went awry. They often sacrificed years of character development for one episode, or even worse just one joke. The characters are outrageous in this season, but deep down they are still a loving family. Fast forward to years later when Bart doesn't seem upset when he thinks his father may have died.

The commentaries on this season are nearly as good as the episodes. Mirken is quick-witted and ad libs very well with Matt Groening and the other writers/artists/actors/etc. If you haven't listened to the commentary, you've only gotten half your money's worth of this DVD set.

This is a good season of "The Simpsons." Too bad they packed it in the stupidest, ugliest, flimsiest case I have ever seen. I have had the set for less than a week and it's already falling apart. It looks awful on the shelf next to the other sets and is just garbage. I am returning it tomorrow and I will go on a quest for the regular cover that Fox put out, because Fox NO LONGER HONORS the deal to give you a good box. That's right, I opened up this hideous thing and found an advertisement for a good box. I called the number and got no answer. I went to the website and it was no longer in existance. This is the end of my "Simpsons" collecting and the end fo my dealing with Fox.

If you are a true Simpsons fan, you know that the best seasons were seasons 3-9. If you love HIGH-LARITY, you need to pick up these dvds!

I was very happy with my purchase. The DVDs arrived in perfect condition and quicker then expected. This DVD set was one of the first things I've ever bought on Amazon.com and it went so well that I've bought a couple more DVDs and many books from the site and been pleased with them all! I would highly recommend the site.

Seeing this season brings back the fondness and humor that I first had with the Simpsons and try not to lament the last seven years or so now that the Simpsons humor has seemed to become to stale and recycled these past few years. I'm sure if anyone remembers the year when it first showed is the episode of when Mr.Burns is shot after another of his devious ideas has seemed to push the people of Springfield past their limit. As you watch the episodes it just seems so much better as these were the early years of the show and the humor and ingenuity to make the episodes was still fresh and innovative to please the fans of the show. I'm not saying that Family Guy is any better or worse than this show and you do get tired of all the hardcore fans blasting each other over these stupid and inane reasons, I'm sure that like many others out there that you can like and enjoy both shows without having to throw stones at the other. The box set is pretty good much better than the eleventh season box set and some of the extras you'll get are pretty decent as well, and the video and audio are nicely done as well watching these episodes and hearing them and clear detail so kudos for the good work. So at the end is this season worth getting even if some of us are starting to get a little tired of the show after all these years?, for these early years of the Simpsons I say yes as these were the best years of a still somewhat entertaining show...
